Job Title: Theater Technician
Department: Production
Reports To: Technical Director
Location: Norman Public Schools
Position Type: Full-time (190 day contract)
Salary: TBD based on experience

Job Summary:
NPS Fine Arts is seeking a skilled and motivated Theater Technician to join our production team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in building sets and basic construction, along with the ability to quickly learn sound and lighting design for live performances. Additionally, this role requires collaboration with certified instructors and the ability to work with students, fostering a learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Set Construction and Installation:
Construct, assemble, and install stage sets according to technical drawings and specifications.
Utilize various construction techniques and materials, including wood, metal, and fabric.
Maintain and repair existing sets and props.
Sound and Lighting Design:
Assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of sound and lighting equipment.
Learn and implement sound design, including mic placement, sound effects, and audio mixing.
Learn and implement lighting design, including the placement of lights, programming lighting cues, and operating lighting consoles during performances.
Technical Support:
Provide technical support during rehearsals and performances, ensuring all equipment operates smoothly.
Collaborate with the production team to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently.
Assist with rigging and flying scenery, as well as the safe operation of stage machinery.
Collaboration and Education:
Work closely with certified instructors to support educational programs and workshops.
Mentor and guide students in technical theater practices, including set construction, sound, and lighting.
Facilitate hands-on learning opportunities for students, ensuring a safe and educational environment.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure that the working environment complies with health and safety regulations.
Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
Foster a safe place of belonging for all students and staff.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with directors, designers, and other production staff to understand and meet the artistic vision of each production.
Participate in production meetings and technical rehearsals as required.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree or certification in theater production, technical theater, or a related field is preferred.
Knowledge of set construction and basic carpentry.
Experience with sound and lighting equipment is a plus, but not required; training will be provided.
Previous experience working with students and/or in an educational setting is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in using hand and power tools for construction.
Strong understanding of construction techniques and materials.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies in sound and lighting design.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to effectively collaborate with instructors and engage with students.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
Ability to stand, walk, and work for extended periods.
Hearing and vision sufficient to operate theatrical sound and lighting equipment.

Working Conditions:
Variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on production schedules.
Fast-paced, dynamic environment with frequent changes and tight deadlines.
