Title: Maintenance Technician
Reports To: Director of Campus Operations
Compensation: Starting at $22 per hour
Calendar: 12 Month
Status: Non-exempt
Start Date: July 1, 2026


Our School 

Houston Classical Charter School (“Houston Classical”) was chartered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open in Houston in August 2020, beginning with kindergarten and first grade. The school has an accomplished and committed Board, which includes a founding Board and a Head of School. We are seeking experienced, dedicated, and motivated individuals who are excited about the challenge of being part of a growing school. The Role

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and functional school environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role performs a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks, including basic HVAC support, plumbing, carpentry, general repairs, and cleaning. The ideal candidate is hands-on, dependable, and takes pride in keeping a school campus running smoothly.

 

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

Work Order & Ticket Management

  • Receive, review, prioritize, complete, and close facilities work orders
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with staff regarding timelines and progress
  • Maintain accurate documentation and close tickets with detailed notes
  • Balance urgent, same-day needs with planned and preventive maintenance
  • Escalate complex issues and coordinate with vendors when necessary

Facilities Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance across multiple campuses
  • Complete basic HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and minor electrical repairs
  • Support setups and breakdowns for school events

Custodial & Campus Support

  • Support daily cleaning and sanitation needs as required
  • Assist with deep cleaning, summer projects, and special initiatives
  • Proactively monitor campus conditions and address issues before they escalate

Multi-Site & Growth Responsibilities

  • Support facilities needs across multiple campuses as the school network grows
  • Plan and prioritize work across sites to ensure timely response and equitable support
  • Travel between campuses as needed during the workday
  • Help develop systems, routines, and standards to support multi-site operations
  • Support onboarding or coordination of additional facilities staff or vendors as needed

Safety, Compliance & Urgency

  • Respond immediately to safety and emergency maintenance concerns
  • Identify and report hazards promptly
  • Support inspections, audits, and compliance requirements
  • Follow all safety protocols and school policies

Communication & Collaboration

  • Serve as a primary facilities point of contact for school staff
  • Partner closely with school leadership, operations, and custodial teams
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors
  • Maintain a service-oriented, solutions-focused approach


Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of facilities maintenance or building operations experience
  • Valid Texas Driver's License Class C
  • Experience managing work orders or ticketing systems
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize with urgency
  • Willingness and ability to travel between campuses
  • Physical ability to perform job duties
  • Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed
